- Data Protection Act - |
| |
The Data Protection Act was introduced in 1984 to bring UK privacy law up to EU standards; it was repealed in 1998 and replaced with the current (1998) Act. Any organisation or individual that uses personal data, be it medical, educational or financial, is bound by the Data Protection Act 1998. The disclosure of personal information to third parties can usually take place only with the consent of the person whose details are sought. Under the Act, your credit history or your credit score cannot be seen by a lender (or anyone else) without your permission, be it signed, oral or entered electronically.
